Practical Tips
- Bring Cash
If the South of the island is pretty well developed, it’s not the same in the Upper Corsica. There is a stark contrast between the two regions when it comes to amenities.
And when there are facilities, a lot of the restaurants, shops, and even car parks take cash only.
- Facilities
As mentioned above, when you go to the North of the island, the facilities aren’t as developed and are often rare, so always check before leaving for the beach and pack a bag with all your essentials, such as water and food.
If you’re seeking a bit of adventure, the North will be the perfect destination. If you’re looking for amenities and nautical activities, then the South definitely has more to offer.
- Bring Sunscreen
Unless you’re going to a beach club or if there are paillotes available, you’ll need to bring your own parasol, and if you don’t have one, then sunscreen is a must-have.
Avoid long exposure between 11 am and 3 pm as it’s the strongest UV index.
- Bring Water
Especially if you’re going to an isolated beach with little to no facilities at all. Some even require you to hike a bit to reach the white sand and clear waters, so don’t forget to pack water and stay hydrated.
- Be Aware of Tides and Currents
While summer is a season when beaches seem to be more supervised, many in Corsica are not monitored at all, so swimming is at your own risk.
Where to go in Corsica for beaches?
Obviously, the coastline is the place you wanna be if you’re looking for the Corsican Beaches. With over 200 beaches, Corsica has plenty to offer when it comes to stretches of sand and clear waters.
Go south if you’re looking for beaches with easy access and plenty of amenities, but if you’re seeking adventure, then the North will be the perfect destination with remote and secret beaches.
Which is the nicest part of Corsica?
What a difficult question to answer. This really depends on what you’re looking for and who you’re traveling with.
As said before, the Upper part of Corsica is often less developed, with little to no amenities at all.
During summer, you’ll always have a hard time finding beaches that are not overcrowded, especially the most famous and easily accessible ones. While Corsica has beautiful beaches, the inland also offers amazing landscapes and hiking trails.
Which side of Corsica has the best beaches?
When you ask around, one name always comes out: Palombaggia Beach, near Porto Vecchio in the South.
Not far from there, Santa Giulia Beach is also one of the most beautiful beaches in Corsica. But honestly, I don’t think you can be disappointed by any of the beaches mentioned in the article.
Where is the clearest water in Corsica?
Believe me when I say there’s not one beach in Corsica without clear water, but the most famous ones are Tamaricciu, Palombaggia, and Calvi, all mentioned earlier in the article.
But I’ll have to be honest about one thing: algae, a very common thing you can find on some of the beaches in Corsica. They tend to be a bit smelly and ruin the experience for some people.
