Ireland is a beautiful country with amazing landscapes, vibrant cities, and stunning coastlines so you will need different supplies and attire for each of these areas.
I have traveled all over the world, all over Ireland, and even lived in Ireland too!
I have packed for so many different trips and I always use this packing list whenever I’m going on a trip around Ireland.
This article outlines everything you need from clothing to gadgets to toiletries.

Ireland Packing List Checklist
Here is the checklist I use when packing for a trip to Ireland:
- Passport
- Phone + Charger
- Wallet
- Powerbank
- Adapter
- Laptop + Charger
- Kindle + Charger
- Earphones
- Toothbrush + Toothpaste
- Deodorant
- Shampoo + Conditioner
- Moisturizer
- Sunscreen
- Rain Jacket
- Underwear

- T-Shirts
- Sweaters/Hoodies

- Tracksuit Pants
- Shorts
- Shoes
- Runners/Hiking Boots
- Swimsuit

Here Is What Not To Pack:
- Too many pairs of shoes (two pairs is plenty!)
- Too many outfits (you use a washing machine at home, right? You can do that in Ireland too!)
- Expensive accessories (losing them at home is bad enough, but losing them abroad is even worse. I just wear a fake wedding ring when I travel )
- Laptop (unless you use it for work while traveling like me, it’s not necessary)
- Multiple jackets (they take up too much space)
Travel Essentials
No matter where you’re traveling to, there are some travel essentials that will make your trip so much more enjoyable.
For long flights or bus journeys, one of the best ways to get through it is by sleeping!
That’s why I always pack a neck pillow, eye mask, and earplugs.
Here are the ones I would recommend:
- BCOZZY Neck Pillow (This one supports your head, neck and chin!)
- MZOO Sleep Eye Mask (These ones are so comfy!)
- Loop Quiet Ear Plugs (These ones are reusable!)
If you can’t sleep then you need something to keep you entertained. I always make sure to have either a physical book or a digital book downloaded for the journey.
I think my Kindle is my most important travel essential!
I also make sure to download a few movies or episodes of a TV show along with certain music playlists. (P.S. don’t forget your headphones or earphones so you don’t disturb the other passengers!)
This gives you other options to pass the time if you can’t sleep and you don’t feel like reading.
Lastly, I make sure to have water and some light snacks with me to get through the trip especially if there’s no food included in the ticket price!

Backpack
I was a suitcase user for years but decided to invest in a good quality backpack when I went on a solo backpacking trip.
I’ve never looked back and I use that same backpack whether I’m going on a weekend trip to a European city or a three-week holiday to Mexico!
The Osprey Fairview 40L is a game-changer! I use it for every trip now!
Alternatively, you could opt for the Osprey Fairview 55L. This one comes with a smaller 15L day pack which makes it 55 liters in total (40L backpack + 15L day pack).
Side Note: Osprey makes backpacks with slightly different shapes, straps, and sizes for men and women.
The men’s version of the Osprey Fairview is called the Osprey Farpoint.

Electronics
One of the most important electronics for any trip is a portable charger or power bank to charge up your phone or other devices when there is no power outlet available.
This is the best power bank I have found, after going through so many useless ones that don’t last.
An adapter is another important electronic to bring because if you cant plug into the power outlet you can’t even charge up your powerbank!
This adapter has so many different options and even has USB charging ports.

Toiletries
Toothbrush and toothpaste are the most important toiletries when travelling. I use this electric toothbrush and it even comes with a case thats perfect for travelling.
Deodorant is a close second in the toiletry bag. I use this deodorant because its long lasting!
Sunscreen is something many people don’t even consider for their trip to Ireland. I know it rains a lot but if you’re in Ireland on a sunny day you can get really sunburnt!
Also, the weather can change very quickly in Ireland, you could head out for a day trip while it’s raining in the morning and you could have beautiful, sunny weather two hours later. So bring sunscreen with you!
Moisturizer is another important product to bring on any trip. This moisturizer is popular and I use it for my daily skincare routine.
Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are available in most hotels but if you want to stick to your usual brands then pack your own.
I use this shampoo and conditioner brand, and usually just use the body wash available in the hotel.
I usually buy most toiletries when I get to my destination rather than buying travel-sized versions.

Clothing Essentials
If you want to blend in with the locals you should wear jeans, a T-shirt and a sweater or hoodie.
This is usually enough layers any time of year in Ireland as it doesn’t usually get very hot or very cold.
- If it’s cold and windy you can put your hood up.
- If it’s warm and sunny you can take off the hoodie.
You should also carry a rain jacket with you so if it starts raining you just add a waterproof rain jacket layer.
This rain jacket has been a lifesaver for me in Ireland!
Two footwear options are all you need for a trip to Ireland.
One nice pair of shoes for heading out on the town or wandering around to different tourist attractions.
One pair of runners you don’t mind getting dirty or else a pair of hiking boots for when you’re heading off the beaten track on a nature walk or hiking trail.

Day Trip Pack
I always enjoy day trips where I can leave my big bag at the hotel or hostel because all you need in the bag is the essentials for that day!
I use my 15L Osprey backpack for any day trips!
I made this day pack list last time I went on a trip in Ireland and I think its perfect for any Irish destination.
Day Pack:
- Phone
- Powerbank
- Charging Cable
- Wallet
- Earphones
- Rain Jacket
These are the essentials for any Irish day trip. You can adjust this based on the trip.
For example:
If you’re heading to the beach you can add on a swimsuit, beach towel, and a change of clothes. (I use a sherpa liner swimming coat to dry off after I swim in Ireland. It’s so cozy!)
If you’re going hiking you can add on hiking boots, spare socks, and a hat or beanie.

Winter Wear
The weather in Ireland is usually mild in winter with mean temperatures of between 4 degrees celsius and 8 degrees celsius.
This means that jeans, a tshirt, hoodie and jacket is enough to keep you warm.
If it’s particularly cold I would advise adding on a hat and scarf!

Summer Wear
Again, the weather in Ireland is relatively mild during summer too. The average temperature during summer is between 13 degrees Celsius and 18 degrees Celsius.
If it’s not particularly warm then jeans, a T-shirt and a hoodie would be a typical outfit. On warmer days, wearing shorts and a T-shirt would be a good idea.
During your trip you might notice that as soon as the sun comes out and the temperatures rise you will see Irish people in shorts and sleeveless tops even if you think it’s freezing compared to your home country!

Where To Stay In Ireland
Dublin, Kerry, and Galway are some of the most popular tourist destinations in Ireland so here are some of the best places to stay in each of those counties.
Dublin:
Dublin is the capital and usually the first stop for visitors to Ireland. Some people don’t even leave Dublin when they visit Ireland but I think you don’t get a true Irish experience until you leave the capital!
There are some amazing places to visit in Dublin like the Guinness Storehouse, Kilmainham Gaol, and Phoenix Park but you should really head further afield if you get the chance!

Kerry:
County Kerry is a county located in the southwest of Ireland. It is known as The Kingdom of Kerry and is famous for its stunning landscapes and scenery.
Some of the most stunning locations to visit in Kerry include Skellig Michael, the Ring of Kerry, the Lakes of Killarney, and Carrauntoohill Mountain.

Galway:
County Galway is located in the west of Ireland. Galway city is a stunning place to visit and I would recommend venturing to this city if you want to experience Irish traditional music, the Irish language, and Irish culture.
There is a vast area in Galway known as Connemara which is home to many native Irish speakers. Areas where Irish is spoken on a daily basis by many people are known as a Gaeltacht.
Some of the incredible places to visit in Galway include Connemara National Park & Visitor Center, Salthill Promenade, and Galway Cathedral.
