FAQs On Snowboard Mittens With Wrist Guards
Why Do You Need Snowboarding Mittens With Wrist Guards At All?
So, why do you need snowboarding mittens with wrist guards at all? If you’ve snowboarded before, you’ll know that you fall frequently, sometimes spectacularly so! Because your feet are inside boots attached to the snowboard, the only way to fall is forward or backward, and your instinct will be to reach out with your hands to break your fall.
So it makes sense that wrist injuries are the most common snowboarding injury, but luckily they can be mostly prevented by wearing a simple piece of protective equipment – the humble wrist guard.
You could buy wristguards separately, but I prefer to own mittens with in-built wristguards for 4 reasons;
1. They provide better protection as the glove, liner, guard, and strap are designed to work together
2. I think they are more comfortable than owning all the pieces separately
3. You will save time not having to put the wrist guards on separately
4. You won’t have to worry about losing the wristguards
Another option is to buy the mittens on their own, I like Dakine Mittens paired with Dakine Wrist Guards, but be forewarned, this is an expensive route.
How Do Snowboard Mittens With Wrist Guards Work?
Wondering how do snowboard mittens with wrist guards work? Snowboarding mittens with wrist guards work to protect your wrists from incurring injuries such as broken wrists. The wrist guards are built-in into the mittens themselves, so there is no need to buy wrist guards separately.
As they are designed as an integrated system, the glove, liner, and strap all work together to protect you from injury.

7. Is the shell material durable enough to cop the abuse snowboarding mittens receive and last more than one season doing it?
8. Is the liner material warm, soft, and durable?
9. Are other parts of the mitten durable, such as having double-stitched seams?
10. Do they come with bonus features that may be important to you, such as a nose wipe or goggle cleaner? Or are they snowboard mittens with wrist leash?
11. Do they look good?
Who Is Most At Risk For A Snowboard Wrist Injury?
Who is most at risk for a snowboard wrist injury? Those who are under 18 or haven’t done it before are most at risk for a snowboard wrist injury. Wrist fractures are a serious issue for snowboarders, with an 18 times greater risk compared to skiers.
Don’t let this put you off though! If you’re just starting, it takes time before you become fully accustomed enough to do tricks or turns where you can become seriously injured.
Are Wrist Guards Worth It For Snowboarding?
Are wrist guards worth it for snowboarding? Yes, wrist guards are worth it for snowboarding and you should wear snowboard wrist guards if you are snowboarding!
The most common types of injuries snowboarders receive are head injuries/concussions, wrist injuries, and shoulder injuries.
If you could prevent a serious injury with just a simple piece of equipment, why wouldn’t you?
Why Do Snowboarders Wear Mittens Instead Of Gloves?
Curious as to why do snowboarders wear mittens instead of gloves? Are you looking to settle the age-old debate of snowboard mittens vs gloves?
Well, I can’t speak for others, but these are the factors I consider when deciding whether to buy mittens or gloves and whether to have inbuilt wristguard protection or not;
1. If you were to try gloves and mittens made from the same materials, and both were sized properly, the mittens will be warmer, as they keep your fingers together, retaining more body heat.
2. Gloves provide better dexterity, but only if they’re properly fitted.
3. Both mittens and gloves can come with inbuilt wrist guards, or you can buy the guards separately. Wrist guards are specifically designed for helping to protect your wrist against injuries.
4. Inbuilt wrist guards mean you won’t forget to wear separate wrist guards or have to buy a separate piece of equipment
It all depends on you, and what activities you are doing, but if you snowboard, I would recommend getting some mittens with wristguards!
